Elections

The Tennessee Valley League is closely watching the bills moving through the Alabama State Legislature. Our current State calls to action are:

SUPPORT: HB71 & HB59, Early Voting
SUPPORT: HB77, Absentee Ballot Pickup and Delivery for disabled individuals
SUPPORT: HB97, Absentee Ballot Curing and the opportunity for voters to correct mistakes on their affidavit envelope
CONTACT: Speaker Ledbetter (334-261-0505, nathaniel.ledbetter@alhouse.gov) and ask these bills be put on the Constitution Campaign and Election (CCE) Committee Calendar

The Tennessee Valley League is also following bills being proposed in Congress, particularly the House of Representatives. Our current national calls to action are:

OPPOSE: The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act
DETAILS: This bill would provide extreme documentation requirements for any American to register to vote, in practice preventing registration by mail and ending voter drives. Americans would need to register in-person with original documentation to update any personal information, such as address or party affiliation. According to this bill, driver's licenses, military, and tribal IDs would not be considered sufficient documentation to prove citizenship and would disenfranchise any person who's legal name no longer matches the name on their birth certificate, including women who changed their name after marriage. The SAVE Act passed the House on 10 April and is now under consideration in the Senate
CONTACT: Call your U.S. Senator and tell them to OPPOSE the Save Act.
